EYFS Areas of Learning

Our Early Years Learning Areas

At Cambridge Nursery School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage to help children learn and grow in lots of different ways. The learning is split into seven areas that work together to give children a strong start.

1. Communication and Language
This is all about helping children talk, listen, and understand words. We encourage children to share their ideas, enjoy stories, and have conversations with friends and adults.

2. Physical Development
Here children learn to use their bodies. They practice moving, climbing, balancing, and using their hands for small tasks like drawing, cutting, and building. We also help them understand how to keep healthy.

3. Personal Social and Emotional Development
Children learn how to feel good about themselves and get along with others. They learn to share, take turns, and understand feelings. This helps them make friends and feel confident.

4. Literacy
This area helps children enjoy reading and writing. They learn letters, words, and stories and practice writing their own ideas. It builds the skills they need to read and write on their own.

5. Mathematics
Children explore numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurements. They learn to count, add, and sort objects in fun ways that make sense in everyday life.

6. Understanding the World
Children discover the world around them. They learn about nature, animals, people, and places. They also explore technology and how things work through hands-on activities.

7. Expressive Arts and Design
This is where children get creative. They paint, sing, dance, and make things with different materials. It helps them use their imagination and express themselves in lots of ways.

Together these areas help children grow, explore, and enjoy learning. Every activity supports them in becoming confident, happy, and curious learners.
