Teaching Approaches
At Cambridge Nursery School, we use teaching approaches that make learning fun and help every child do their best.
As a proud Early Years setting, we support children’s learning through play and exploration. We use a play-based approach, so children learn by doing, trying new things, and discovering the world around them. We also love outdoor learning, where children can explore nature, climb, run, and play games that help them learn about numbers, letters, and problem-solving.
We think it’s really important to know each child and their family well. By building strong relationships, we can understand what each child likes, what helps them learn, and how to support them if they need extra help. We talk to families, share ideas, and celebrate progress together, because learning works best when children feel safe, happy, and supported at school and at home.
At our nursery school, we help children learn to read by teaching phonics using the Letters and Sounds programme. The children learn the sounds that letters make through fun games, songs, and activities. In the summer term, children who are ready will start Read Write Inc. to help them build their reading skills even more.
